| We have contacted some of the best Veterinarians in the area to give you helpful tips for you and your dog. |
| Heartworm season is now upon us. For pet owners, that means that their animals are at risk for heartworm disease. Heartworm testing is done yearly in the spring, and then your dog should be put on a routine preventative for heartworms. Remember it is cheaper, and healthier for your pet, to prevent the disease rather than treat it. During the first part of the spring drivers should be extra cautious for wandering dogs and cats. The animals get a little “spring fever” and there tends to be more accidents involving pets. Also with the increase in dogs on the move outside of their own yards, we find more dog fights resulting in bite wounds. Watch carefully for strays in your neighborhood. If your dog is in a fight seek veterinary assistance immediately. With the spring also come the excessive eating and chewing of foreign material, such as grass, twigs, garbage and so on. This can cause your pet to have some GI upset. If this should happen your pet should be taken to the veterinarian for a check over. Dr. Lloyd Nelkie - D. V. M. |
